INTRODUCTION

This manual describes the standard bag closing station with  Easy PLC control. Please note drawings are not to scale and are for reference only.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This unit has been designed for paper bags from 500 gms to 12.5Kgs, The bag sizes will determine the size of the changeover parts. When a bag or bags are detected the carriage will start to cycle, when the supply of bags stops cycle will finish and the machine will go into the rest position.

The most important factors in the efficient running of the machine are correct bag weights and correct height adjustment

The smaller bags feed into the sealer two or three at a time, doubling or tripping the packing rate in bags per Minute.

THE + HOT MELT GLUE APPLICATOR UNIT


WARNING!

It is important that it is understood that hot melt adhesive is capable of inflicting severe burns if improperly handled, and consideration should be given to wearing protective clothing whilst working on the machine.

The following points are vital and, if ignored will, more than likely cause problems with the operation of the machine.

  • Temperature control is critical and it is essential that the personnel involved in changing the controls have some way of measuring the relevant Temperature points.
  • Never under any circumstances attempt to disconnect the gun from it’s hose without the system being correctly heated, air supply being off and the fluid pressure being relieved.
  • Make sure that the hot melt glue is clean.
  • Ensure you have correct air pressure and mains supply voltage.
  • It is advisable that trained operators only perform external equipment adjustments. Internal adjustments should be handled by handled by qualified technicians.
  • Pressure on the air pump is 2-3 Bar
  • The unit takes about 120 Minutes to reach operating temperature
  • The minimum bend radius for the heated hose is 300 mm.
  • Change or clean main filter every 2 Months
  • Clean the machine whilst it is hot with mineral turpentine or paraffin.
  • A complete system flush is recommended every three months.

MULTIPLE AND SINGLE BAGS

As shown below, the low height and narrow bags of the 500 gms and 1 Kgs can be fed into the machine in pairs to achieve a higher packing rate. The distance travelled is exactly the same as the single big bags. Sometimes even the bigger bags might be fed in pairs

SETTING TIMERS AND COUNTERS

  • Push the OK key
  • Move the flashing cursor to parameter with the down key
  • Push OK
  • Increment the timer or counter number with the up or down key to select the relevant one
  • Push OK
  • Use the left and right keys to navigate to the digit you want to change
  • Use the up and down keys to change the parameter
  • Push OK
  • Navigate to the parameter to be changed
  • Push the OK key to enter edit mode
  • Change the setting and push OK
  • Push the Esc key to return to the normal display

PASSWORDS

The program is password protected but the parameters can be changed.

The password can be obtained from the supplier

TIMERS

All the timers have two settings

  • Delay before firing glue (default .01)
  • Delay, stop firing glue at the end of the bag (Default 0)

The timers to switch the x and y solenoids control the rate of the machine but the machine must be set up mechanically to do the speeds required

Note:

Timer 1 and 2 are used to line up the glue on the bags. Timer one must be increased if the glue is fired too early and Timer two must be decreased if the glue is fired beyond the end of the bag.

DOWNSTREAM INTERLOCK

There is a downstream interlock that can be wired onto terminal 25 in the PLC panel.

The input is 220 Volts AC.

If the voltage is high the machine will stop

CHANGING TO ANOTHER BAG SIZE

When changing to another bag size there is a procedure to follow

  1. Pass all remaining bags of the current size through the machine using the clean out button for the last 7
  2. Push the emergency stop button in after the machine has stopped
  3. Adjust the height of the folding and cutting section so it is higher than the bag to be passed through.
  4. Remove the back plate and replace it with the plate that is suited to the new bag size. NB: You might have to move the guide rail out of the way, this is normal and is set up at the end of the procedure
  5. Adjust the pusher to its most open position
  6. Adjust the front guide to its most open position
  7. Fit the relevant pusher plate to the pusher mechanism
  8. Push the clean out/ set-up button once and the back plate will come foreword
  9. Place a weighed bag/bags into the first compartment of the back plate
  10. Push clean out/ set-up button once and the pusher will extend
  11. Adjust the bag pusher so it is in the middle and touching the bag/bags
  12. Adjust the front guide so it is behind the pushing surface of the pusher. The pusher must not extend to the left of the bag/bags to be packed.
  13. Push clean out/ set-up button once and the pusher will retract
  14. Adjust the rails on the in feed conveyor so they do not interfere with the bags when pushed
  15. Adjust the rails on the in feed conveyor to accommodate the width of the bags
  16. Pull out the emergency stop and engage it again (the back plate and pusher will return to the original position)
  17. Place a bag onto the roller bed of the machine and adjust the height of the machine so the bag is about 3-5 mm from the bottom of the folding section
  18. Set the selector switch on the front panel to the size you are running
  19. Check the air pressure and glue temperature are correct to run the machine
  20. Disengage the emergency stop button
  21. Feed bags into the machine doing final height adjustments so the bags are uniform

REAL TIME CLOCK

PLC 2 is fitted with a real time clock so the machine can be configured to switch off and on before workers arrive on site.

Access the parameters via the control panel and set the clock timer to suit you needs

Remember that the glue pot can take up to two hours to warm up in winter climates

SOLENOIDS

  • X solenoid Pushes the carriage back and forth
  • Y solenoid Pushes the carriage side to side
  • Pusher solenoid pushes the bags into the carriage
  • Glue fire solenoid fires the glue onto the bag (Single acting valve)
  • Cutting and creasing solenoid (rotary cutter)
  • Height adjusting compress at the in feed section Compress solenoid on the out feed

RESTRICTORS

The cylinders are fitted with restrictors on cylinders that have to move with precision. Please note that the if the machine is sped up mechanically it might cause unnecessary wear to moving parts and it is recommended that the restrictors are kept in line with original specifications

Restrictors can be set up in clean out mode being careful of moving parts.

The cylinders should move smoothly but not sluggishly. X and Y cylinders are fitted with cushions and these should not restrict the travel of the carriage. They should be finely set so there is no mechanical banging at the ends of their stroke. Please note any water in the airline will hamper restrictor set-up.

The rotary cutter should pull the bags through at the same rate as the back plate

THE HOT MELT SYSTEM FILTER ASSEMBLY

The system is fitted with a high-pressure filter before the glue enters the heated hose to ensure that the glue is clean and free of contamination.

The filter element is of the tubular type and constructed of stainless steel located centrally in the filter housing with a spring and locknut.

The complete filter assembly with element is withdrawn from the manifold and can be washed as an assembly in hot paraffin or solvent prior to reinsertion into the manifold. If the filter element shows any signs of damage it must b replaced.

NB: The hot melt glue will not drain from the tank if the filter plug is removed. To drain the tank, remove the filter plug, place suitable container at the filter outlet and turn the air pressure regulator on the side of the hot melt glue system to about 1 Bar.

THE GLUE PUMP

The pump is a dual acting air type with a submerged fluid section. Change over of strokes is done by means of pop pet valves and a change over valve.

NB: The pressure relief valve has been factory set but can be altered if the need arises.

SERVICING THE MACHINE

WARNING!

The glue applicator can cause severe burns. If in doubt switch off the air and mains before proceeding.

It is recommended that apart from every day cleaning of the machine it be serviced regularly once a week.

Check list:

  • Loose cylinder’s and bearings
  • Faulty switches
  • Water in the air line
  • Set up of probes
  • Glue gun flow
  • Leaking cylinders and valves
  • Air pressure adjustment
  • Oil in lubricator
  • Rollers rotating freely
  • Wiring not damaged
  • Look for signs of mechanical wear on carriage
  • Knife held fast and not blunt
  • Remove build up of glue on guide
  • Clean bottom support rollers
  • Lubricate height adjust screws
  • Clean and lubricate linear bearings
  • Check restrictor settings
  • Folding section travel adjustments
  • Clean the frame at the X and Y Solenoid exhausts
  • Purge the glue applicator when necessary

AccuTech Weighing Services (PTY) L.t.d. reserves the right to change or modify the glue sealer and manual for the improvement of the product.

Pneumatics, PLC’s and hot melt glue units supplied on the machine are guaranteed by the manufacturers of these items.

AccuTech cannot be held liable for failure on these parts.

Any modification by the user to the AccuTech design will result in the falling away of the guarantees unless permission is obtained in writing from AccuTech.

The most important factors in the efficient running of the machine are correct bag weights and correct height adjustments.

The smaller bags feed into the sealer two or three at a time, doubling or tripling the packing rate in bags per minutes.
